the verdict. The Welt Whitening Cream (30ml, BDT 1,000) is a genuinely well-formulated brightening and hydration cream built around three ingredients most BD creams at this price cannot afford: a stable oil-soluble vitamin C, a Japanese algae polysaccharide that outperforms hyaluronic acid on water binding, and prickly pear extract for barrier repair. Used nightly with daily sunscreen, most people should see dullness lift within 2 to 3 weeks and dark spots soften over 8 to 12. It will not change your natural skin colour, and we would not sell it to you if it claimed to. Best for: dull, dehydrated, uneven-toned skin. Skip it if: you have active cystic acne or a badly compromised barrier.

first, about the word "whitening" on the box

We need to deal with this before anything else, because it matters more than any ingredient.

This product is imported under the name "Welt Whitening Cream." That is the manufacturer's name and we are not going to hide it from you. But we have written elsewhere on this site that fairness and whitening creams in Bangladesh are a genuine health hazard — the market is full of products containing undeclared mercury, industrial-strength hydroquinone, and topical steroids that appear to work for six weeks and then cause permanent damage. We stand by that entirely.

So here is the honest position. This cream contains none of those things. It is a vitamin C and hydration formula. What it actually does is fade hyperpigmentation — dark spots, post-acne marks, uneven patches — back toward your natural tone, and hold water in your skin so it looks less dull. That is what "brightening" means in dermatology, and it is a real, achievable, worthwhile result.

What it will not do is make you a different colour than you were born. No topical cream does that. Anything that appears to is either a temporary cosmetic tint or something you should not be putting on your face.

We sell this product because the formula is good. We are describing it as a brightening cream because that is what it is. If you were looking for a fairness cream, this is not it, and we would rather lose the sale than mislead you.

what it is actually like to use

Product reviews that skip this part are useless. Here is the physical experience, because texture is the reason most people abandon a cream regardless of how good the ingredient list looks.

  • Texture: A light-medium cream. Not a gel, not a thick balm. It has a slight cushioned slip when you first pat it on, which is the sacran, then it settles.

  • Absorption: Around 60 to 90 seconds to fully sink in on normal skin, a little longer on very dry skin. It does not leave a greasy film. On oily skin in peak monsoon you may notice a faint dewiness for the first 20 minutes — this settles.

  • Scent: Very mild, faintly clean. No strong perfume, no medicinal smell. If you are fragrance-sensitive this is unlikely to bother you, but patch test regardless.

  • Colour: Off-white to very pale cream. Worth noting: because the vitamin C here is the stable oil-soluble form, it should not turn orange or brown over time. If it ever does, something has gone wrong with storage and you should stop using it.

  • Packaging: 30ml jar. Practical note — jars expose product to air and fingers each use. Wash your hands before dipping, keep the lid closed tight, and store it away from the bathroom window.

the three ingredients doing the actual work

Most BDT 1,000 creams in Bangladesh are glycerin, a fragrance, and a marketing budget. This one is not. Here is what is actually inside and why each one matters.

1. ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate — the vitamin C that does not die in your drawer

If you have ever bought a vitamin C serum, used it for three weeks, and then noticed the liquid had turned orange-brown, you have watched L-ascorbic acid oxidise. Once that happens the product is not just weaker — it is inert. You are applying expensive water.

Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate (also called THDA) is the fix. It is an oil-soluble vitamin C derivative, and the difference is not marketing.

  • It does not oxidise the same way. Standard L-ascorbic acid needs a pH below 3.5 to work and degrades rapidly in light and air. THDA is stable at pH above 5, which means it survives on your shelf in Dhaka heat. (source)

  • It penetrates roughly four times better. Ex vivo studies measured THDA achieving transdermal absorption up to four times higher than magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, the other common derivative. Because it is oil-soluble, it moves through your skin's lipid layers instead of sitting on top.

  • It converts to active vitamin C inside your skin. In-vitro work shows THDA produces collagen synthesis and antioxidant effects comparable to L-ascorbic acid, which suggests it is being transformed into active vitamin C after it penetrates the outer layers.

  • It does not sting. Because it is formulated at neutral pH rather than the acidic pH L-ascorbic acid requires, you can use a higher concentration without the burning that makes most people abandon vitamin C in week two.

This is the most expensive ingredient in the formula and the main reason the cream costs what it does. For pigmentation and dullness, it is doing the heavy lifting.

2. aphanothece sacrum exopolysaccharides — the japanese algae that outperforms hyaluronic acid

This one has a story worth knowing. Aphanothece sacrum is a freshwater algae that grows in exactly one place on earth: the pure spring water of Kyushu, Japan. The Japanese have eaten it for centuries as "suizenji nori." The polysaccharide extracted from it is called sacran.

Sacran has a molecular weight of roughly 29 million, which is enormous for a skincare molecule. Pulse-NMR studies show it binds water molecules more effectively and more strongly than hyaluronic acid or carrageenan. (source) In practical terms:

  • It forms a breathable film on the skin surface that slows water loss without fully occluding your pores.

  • The water it holds resists evaporation — meaningful in an air-conditioned Dhaka office where the air pulls moisture out of your face all day.

  • Human studies show it improves both skin elasticity and hydration, and helps restore barrier function.

  • There is also published work on its anti-inflammatory effect in allergic dermatitis models, which is part of why it suits sensitive skin.

You will not find sacran in a BDT 1,000 cream often. It is expensive and supply is limited by geography.

3. opuntia ficus-indica stem extract — the barrier repair layer

Prickly pear cactus extract, rich in vitamin E and fatty acids. Its job in this formula is repair: rebuilding the lipid layer that gets stripped by harsh cleansers, Dhaka pollution, and over-exfoliation, and calming the redness that comes with a compromised barrier.

This matters more than it sounds. A damaged barrier is why vitamin C stings some people, why moisturiser stops absorbing, and why skin looks dull no matter what you put on it. Pairing an active with a repair ingredient in the same formula is thoughtful formulation, not filler.

what it will do, and what it will not

We are going to be specific here because vague promises are how people waste money.

what it should do

  • Fade dark spots and post-acne marks. Vitamin C inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme that produces pigment. Most users should see visible softening on recent marks at 6 to 8 weeks and meaningful fade by 12. Older or deeper pigmentation takes longer.

  • Make dull skin look brighter within 2 to 3 weeks. This is the hydration effect, and it is the fastest visible change — plump, well-hydrated skin reflects light evenly. Dehydrated skin scatters it and reads as tired.

  • Improve the look of fine lines. Partly hydration, partly collagen support from vitamin C. Not dramatic. Noticeable.

  • Hold up in Dhaka humidity and AC. The sacran film is designed for exactly this problem: moisture retention when the environment is fighting you from both directions.

  • Layer under sunscreen without pilling. It absorbs fully. That is not a given at this price point.

what it will not do

  • Change your natural skin tone. Already covered above, but worth repeating. Brightening is not bleaching.

  • Clear active acne. It is not an acne treatment. If you have active breakouts, you need a salicylic acid or adapalene protocol first.

  • Fix melasma alone. Melasma is hormone-driven and needs a dedicated protocol. This cream can be part of it, but azelaic acid and rigorous SPF do the primary work.

  • Work without sunscreen. Nothing on this page works without sunscreen. Every UV photon undoes what the vitamin C is trying to do. This is the single most common reason brightening products appear to fail.

welt vs the other brightening options we stock

We sell several products that address dullness and dark spots. Here is where this one sits, honestly, including when something else is the better buy.

  • Welt Whitening Cream — BDT 1,000 / 30ml (BDT 33 per ml). Best all-in-one: brightening active plus serious hydration plus barrier repair in a single step. Choose this if you want fewer products and your concern is dullness with some uneven tone.

  • The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% — BDT 1,099 / 30ml. Different mechanism: niacinamide blocks pigment transfer rather than inhibiting its production. Also helps oil control. These two work better together than either alone. Niacinamide morning, Welt at night.

  • Anua Azelaic Acid 10% — BDT 999 / 30ml. Choose this instead if your primary problem is melasma, redness, or stubborn post-acne marks. Azelaic is the stronger pigmentation active and it is pregnancy-safe. Welt is the better hydrator.

  • Arencia Vitamin C Booster Shot — BDT 1,750 / 30ml (BDT 58 per ml). A dedicated high-strength vitamin C serum. More potent on pure vitamin C, but no hydration or barrier support, and 43% more expensive per ml. Choose it if you already have a moisturiser you love.

  • Axis-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum — BDT 260. The budget entry point. 5% niacinamide-based. Genuinely good value if BDT 1,000 is out of reach this month. Less potent, no sacran.

  • Cetaphil Bright Healthy Radiance Night Cream — BDT 2,400 / 50g. The dermatology-aisle alternative. Larger size, gentler, more expensive per active. Choose it if you have very sensitive skin and want a pharmacy brand.

the price, honestly assessed

BDT 1,000 for 30ml works out to roughly BDT 33 per millilitre. Whether that is good depends on the comparison.

Against a typical BD pharmacy fairness cream at BDT 150 to 400, it is more expensive — but those products are not carrying stable vitamin C or Japanese sacran, and some are carrying things you do not want on your face. The comparison is not really valid.

Against imported Japanese or Korean creams containing sacran, which typically start around BDT 3,500 in Bangladesh, this is the value case for the product.

A 30ml jar used once daily on the face lasts most people 8 to 10 weeks. That is roughly BDT 100 to 125 per week — about the price of one coffee at a Gulshan café. Framed that way, the real question is not whether you can afford it. It is whether you will use it every day for three months.

how to check yours is authentic

This is a Thailand import, and Bangladesh has a real counterfeit problem across every imported skincare category. We would rather teach you to verify than ask you to trust us.

  1. Check the batch code. It should be printed or laser-etched on the base of the jar or the carton, legible and not smudged. Ink that rubs off under your thumb is a warning sign.

  2. Check the importer details. Legitimate imports into Bangladesh carry the importer's name on the packaging. This one should read Brothers Technologies Inc. No importer marking on an imported product is a red flag.

  3. Check the texture and colour. Off-white to pale cream, mild scent, no separation. If the product is orange, brown, watery, or strongly perfumed, do not use it.

  4. Check the price. If someone is selling this at BDT 400, it is not the same product. Counterfeits compete on price because they cannot compete on formula.

Our full guide on spotting fake skincare in Bangladesh covers the QR-scan and batch-code verification process for every brand we carry. It is worth ten minutes of your time before your next purchase from any seller, including us.

how to use it so it actually works

Vitamin C products fail for predictable reasons. Here is how to avoid all of them.

  1. Use it at night. THDA does its repair and pigment work best while your skin is in overnight recovery mode. Morning use is fine too — just never skip sunscreen after.

  2. Apply to clean, slightly damp skin. After your cleanser, pat your face until barely damp. The sacran binds that residual water into your skin. Applying to bone-dry skin wastes the ingredient.

  3. Pea-sized amount, patted not rubbed. A 30ml jar should last 8 to 10 weeks. If you are finishing it in a month, you are over-applying — and over-applying does not speed up results.

  4. Wait 90 seconds before the next layer. Oil-soluble ingredients need a moment. Rushing the next step is how pilling happens.

  5. Sunscreen every single morning. The Celimax Pore + Dark Spot Brightening SPF50+ PA++++ (BDT 1,560) is our matched pick because it adds a brightening complex on top of protection. The SKIN1004 Centella Sun Serum (BDT 1,400) is better if your skin is oily.

Do not combine with: a strong AHA/BHA on the same night, or high-strength retinol on the same night. Alternate them instead. Stacking actives on melanin-rich skin triggers inflammation, and inflammation causes the exact pigmentation you are trying to fade.

The matched daytime partner. If you want the fastest visible progress on dark spots, pair this cream at night with the Uvlina Sunscreen Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ (BDT 1,200) in the morning. Uvlina carries its own Vitamin C and Mulberry brightening complex, so you get pigment work happening at both ends of the day plus the UV protection that makes any of it hold. what to expect, week by week

Set expectations here and you will not quit early, which is the main reason products appear not to work.

  • Week 1: Skin feels softer and holds moisture better. That is the sacran. No pigment change yet — do not expect any.

  • Weeks 2–3: Dullness lifts. People may say you look rested. The marks are still there but the canvas around them looks better.

  • Weeks 4–6: First visible softening on recent dark spots — the ones from breakouts in the last few months. Older marks unchanged.

  • Weeks 8–12: Meaningful fade on most post-acne marks. More even overall tone. This is the payoff window.

  • Beyond 12 weeks: Maintenance. Deeper or older pigmentation continues improving slowly over 3 to 6 months.

Photograph your face every two weeks. Same light, same angle, same time of day, no filter. Your eyes adapt to your own face daily and you will genuinely not notice a 30% improvement without a reference photo. This single habit separates people who stick with a routine from people who quit at week five.

who this is for (and who should skip it)

Buy it if: your main complaint is dullness, uneven tone, post-acne dark marks, or dehydrated skin that looks tired by afternoon. Also good if you have tried vitamin C serums before and found them irritating — the neutral pH here solves that.

Skip it if: you have active inflamed acne (treat that first), a badly damaged barrier that stings with everything (repair first with a simple ceramide moisturiser), or if your primary concern is melasma specifically, where azelaic acid should be your first purchase instead.

Pairs exceptionally well with: niacinamide in the morning and any SPF50+ PA++++ sunscreen. For the full context on building a routine around it, our hyperpigmentation guide and glass skin routine both slot this cream in cleanly.

frequently asked questions

is welt whitening cream safe?

Yes. It contains no hydroquinone, no mercury, and no topical steroids — the three things that make many BD fairness creams dangerous. It is a vitamin C and hydration formula. As with any new product, patch test on your jawline for three days before full-face use.

will it make my skin fairer?

It will fade dark spots and even out your tone, which makes skin look brighter and clearer. It will not change your natural skin colour, and no legitimate topical product does. If a product promises a shade change in weeks, that is a warning sign, not a feature.

what is the price of welt whitening cream in bangladesh?

BDT 1,000 for the 30ml jar at you&skin, with cash on delivery available nationwide and free delivery on orders over BDT 5,000. At BDT 33 per ml it is priced competitively against dedicated vitamin C serums that cost BDT 58 per ml and do less.

how long does one 30ml jar last?

8 to 10 weeks with once-daily use and a pea-sized amount on the face. If it is running out in four weeks you are over-applying, and over-application does not speed up results — it just wastes product.

can i use it with niacinamide or another vitamin c serum?

With niacinamide, yes — they complement each other and the old rumour that they cancel out is not supported by current research. With another vitamin C serum, it is redundant; use one or the other. Do not layer it with strong acids or retinol on the same night.

is it good for oily skin in dhaka humidity?

Yes, with a caveat. The sacran film is lightweight and breathable rather than occlusive, so most oily-skin users tolerate it well. If your skin is very oily in peak monsoon, use a slightly smaller amount or reserve it for evenings only.

why is ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate better than regular vitamin c?

Three reasons: it does not oxidise and turn brown on your shelf, it penetrates roughly four times more effectively than the common water-soluble derivative, and it does not sting because it works at neutral pH. Regular L-ascorbic acid is potent but fragile and irritating. THDA trades a little raw potency for stability and tolerability, which matters more in real use.

can i use it during pregnancy?

Vitamin C derivatives are generally considered low-risk in pregnancy and this formula contains no retinoids, hydroquinone, or high-strength acids. That said, check with your doctor before using any new product during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Our melasma guide covers the full pregnancy-safe pigmentation protocol.

one more thing

The most common message we get about brightening products is some version of: I used it for a month and nothing happened. Almost every time, one of three things is true. They were not wearing sunscreen. They were using it inconsistently. Or they were expecting a colour change that no cream can deliver, and so did not notice the dark spots that had genuinely faded.

This cream will not transform your face in two weeks. What it will do, used nightly for three months with sunscreen every morning, is give you clearer, more even, better-hydrated skin than you have now. That is a real result and it is worth having.

The Welt Whitening Cream is available here at BDT 1,000. Cash on delivery nationwide, free delivery over BDT 5,000. If you are not sure it is right for your skin, message us and tell us what you are dealing with — we will tell you honestly if something else on our shelf suits you better, including when that something else is cheaper.
